Keep Romance Going

After waking up too late to catch the Royal Wedding live, but catching re-runs of the vows and the royal kiss, I am recalling what I have often thought to write about and thought this was the perfect time.  Everyone is still in the romantic after-glow of the royal wedding and feeling romantic.  We all can’t help but love romantic things, and a wedding is one of the most romantic things I can think of.  Here is the point.  In a day and age when people are living longer and healthier lives, are you ever too old to be romantic?  No, I don’t think so.  If so many people are living to over 100 years old (have you ever watched the Today Show when Willard Scott is talking about all the over-100 people across the country?), if you stop being romantic in your 50’s you have 40-50 years left of your life with no romance!  Isn’t that a horrible thought?  I think so.  So we have to keep the romance going.  How do you do that? Consciously and actively trying to keep it, that’s how!

And how do you do that?  Why not start with a calendar. Consciously sit down together and mark out dates, romantic getaways, weekends, etc. that you will plan out and actively engage in over the year.  You can even go a step farther and make it just your romantic calendar by having one made with your pictures on it.  My husband had a calendar made for me as a gift with a picture of us on our wedding day.  I loved it, but was very sad when the year ended.  (However he also got coffee mugs with our picture on them, and I still have those to use every day!)  Check out my Romantic Gift pages for shopping info on these personalized gifts.

Anyway, this will force you to execute and accomplish your goal of keeping the romance in your relationship.  It is never too late to keep adding dates on your calendar, just because it is already the end of April doesn’t mean wait until next January!  The summer months are almost upon us and there are so many romantic picnic opportunities ahead of us.  I personally love picnics and al fresco dining.  Very romantic and fun, can’t wait!

Need helpful ideas?  Take a look at these great books: 500 Great Dates: Creative, Fun and Sexy Ways to Spend Time Together byLisa Sussman, and also 1001 Ways To Be Romantic by Gregory J.P. Godek.  (See the online shopping info on my Romantic Gifts For Her and Romantic Gifts For Him pages)  These two books will go a long way to giving you ways and incentives to keep your romance alive and blooming.  There are so many books and games that will help you get creative and put a little spark back into your relationship. Everyone, yes, everyone needs a jump start sometimes. So isn’t right now the best time?
Remember your romantic getaways can be just a few days, a weekend, a week or more.  Even a date night is romantic.  Hey, you can be romantic at home too.  It may be getting too “Springy” to start up the fireplace, but you can plan a special evening with champagne and a special dinner for the two of you.  Sometimes preparing that romantic dinner for the two of you is a romantic thing to do together.  Cooking together is fun and I love picking out a great recipe, shopping for the special ingredients and cracking a great bottle of wine to drink while we prepare it.  Set a romantic table with candles, fresh flowers and it is a special romantic evening for the two of you.

I still have to go back and watch the re-runs of the entire royal wedding, but thought I would share one of my favorite wedding picture ideas for those of you who are about to walk down the aisle yourselves.  The one with our shoes in our hotel suite on our wedding night is my favorite; simple, but says it all.  Happy Spring, happy romance!  And I wish I had a piece of the royal wedding cake!  Oh, keep the romance going, plan a romantic getaway!  You’ll be glad you did.
And of course don’t forget the champagne!
